Surreal Artists.

artist's name : Rene Magritte was born on November 1 in the year 1898. Before finding the true meaning of his life, he spent his time designing wallpaper and advertisements. He then decided that enough was enough and moved his life to Paris to become what he always wanted to be, an artist. More specifically a surrealist artist. People most often recognized his work by the symbols he used the most in his paintings. To name a few, the female torso, the castle, the rock, the window etc. He attended the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts from 1916-1918. After his great success with his carrer he unfortunatley passed away in the summer of '67. Magritte was 69 when he died.

title of artwork: "The False Mirror"

date of work: 1898-1967

description: You look into the picture and you see what's plain to the eye. Just that, an eye; however, instead of a normal eye this one is portrayed as being a mirror. You can see the detail in the eye as you look to the under part and see where it meets the tear duct.

analysis: The painting is very well balanced in the fact that there is no major or noticable color differences and it's not oddly proportioned.

interpretation: For me, this painting says that there's more than meets the eye. We've all heard the saying 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' well that's what I'm getting. It says to me that although people appear to be a certain person on the outside, with how they carry themselves and how they act around others isn't neccesarily the person that they are, but the person that they have to be.

judgement: Mr. Rene Magritte was a very succesful painter, he did what he wanted with the life that he had and he never let anyone tell him how to live his life, and I feel that it portrayed into his work, therefore this painting is very succesful in my eyes.

artist name: Tommy Ingberg, born on December 6 1979 in Stockholm Sweden was always an artistic kid. He only bought his first camera when he was 15 years old. It was a Praktica camera with two objectives. He took pictures of everything he could, or atleast how much his budget would allow him; but that didn't limit him. His earlier start with photography began with his becoming familiar with all sorts of different photograhy. As of today he works mainly with the black and white scale. Most, if not all, of his painting start off with a story, a feeling and/or a riddle for who's ever looking at his pictures to wonder about.

title: Lift

date of work: February 6, 2012
description: Looking at the picture is caught me off guard just for the fact that there's a tiny man escaping huge hands by way of a heart shaped balloon frenzy. But it gives makes you question why, why is he floating away on balloons and why are there these giant hand trying to stop him.

analysis: Personally, I really like any grayscale(black and white) photograph it just gives it a different feel than it would in color. The way that the balloons are a different shade then the rest of the picture, and a different shade the some of the balloons.

interpretation: I know many people would look at this and say that it has something to do with love. Well, I agree with those many people. For me, this picture is saying that this man is running toward what he wants in life, love. He's determined to do what it is he wants to do, and he won't let anyone or anything stand in his way. The hands are what was holding him back from following his heart, he's realized that you only live this one life and he's not going to sit down and watch it pass him by, he wants to live a life worth living.

judgment: Whenever I take a picture I like to see what it looks like in a different color, or different shade and usually I'll choose the grayscale option just because I like how it looks with the different shades of whatever is in the picture. Overall, I feel that this picture is successful.

Although these pictures aren't that different, they are. The painting above by Rene Magritte, his sense of art is more along the lines of who you are in life and who you want to be, and not who society wants you to be. Tommy Ingberg's picture says that life is too short to let it pass you by, you've got to live like you mean it. Also Ingerberg's photos are always black and white whereas Magritte's paintings have no specific preference as to what color they will be.
